The first golf cart was created by a person called Merle Williams in the year 1951. During those days many car companies were coming out with electric cars as getting gas was difficult. Merle tried to utilize the ideas that he had about electric cars in trying to come up with the first electric golf car. Merle started manufacturing his golf cart with the help of his Marketer Company and started its production at California. The first golf carts madder were two-seaters, and these days carts can seat up to six people. Merle’s first electric golf cart spurred other companies to start manufacturing their own versions of the golf cart. Finally, after a gap of almost two decades the first golf cart powered by gas was manufactured in the year 1971.

The first golf carts that were introduced into the market used to be very simple but with each passing year golf car manufacturers tried to outdo the last years model with new and innovative modifications. The innovations have reached to such a stage that now you can even make your own customizations to the golf cart you want to buy for your own use. Not only are simple modifications like adding luxury of the seats, but also can make other additions like integrating television into the backs of the seats. Perhaps you would like to add neon lights? There are a large range of customizations you will be able to add to your golf cart. You could also make them look more attractive by adding great graphics and vinyl to the body of the cart.

Golf carts were introduced to help the golf players in moving from one part of the golf course to the other. It made carrying the heavy golf bags quite easy and on top of that people did not have to tow them on their backs anymore. The golf cart is still being used for the same purposes as it was in the early days of its introduction.After so many innovations it is now more of a luxury item that upper class indulge in and try to add their innovations to it whenever possible. It is hard to say who exactly started the golf cart trend but whoever it is it surely has caught on.
